Weak law enforcement, soaring unemployment and post-revolution political instability in Tunisia and Egypt encourage impoverished citizens to use smugglers to flee to Europe in search of better lives. Some succeed in making their way to Europe while others drown in the seawater or end up in detention centers .In Egypt, workers are also abused by employers due to weak labor laws and in Jordan, Syrian refugees are forced to pay money to brokers to escape the hardship of Zaatari camp.

Ghassan AlShehabi / Bahrain

Ghassan Shehabi is a Bahraini journalist and writer. Shehabi had helped starting few newspapers in Gulf region like "Alayyam", "Alwasat" and “Alaswaq". He has 20 years of experience in journalism and has been working as a correspondent for several Arab and Gulf newspapers. Shehabi has covered several conferences in the Middle East - conferences on economic, environmental and regional issues in Bahrain. Shehabi worked in producing programs for Bahrain TV and Radio Bahrain. He is a member of the "Bahraini Writers' Union” and has co-authored and contributed in editing and publishing several books. In 2001, Shehabi was chosen among 10 specialists in media and culture in Bahrain to suggest a new media law. This was a part of the committees of National Action Charter of Bahrain under the supervision of his Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifah. In 2007, Shehabi won the Arab Journalism Award (Dubai) in the category of political journalism for a series of investigations that was published in "Alwagt" newspaper. After participating in many courses that was organized by ARIJ, Shehabi became a certified trainer in ARIJ himself. Shehabi had participated in many other courses like the Advanced course in the editorial management skills and responsibilities of Chief Editor in Al-Jazeera Media Training & Development Center, Doha, Qatar in 2004.
